Before Hair Transplantation

Before undergoing a hair transplant, most patients have the same questions: What should I do before a hair transplant, and how can I prepare properly for the procedure?

If you have never undergone a hair transplant before, feeling anxious is completely natural. Uncertainty can often cause tension and doubts.

The Clinic Medical Center has prepared a detailed pre-operative guide to help reduce these concerns and make you feel more confident. Understanding all stages of preparation and the procedure itself helps ensure that your hair transplant is performed under the safest possible conditions and delivers high-quality, natural-looking results.

Choosing a Specialized Clinic

One of the most important factors in the success of a hair transplant is choosing a reliable and professional clinic. The experience of the doctors, their medical approach, and the technologies they use directly influence the final outcome of the procedure.

It is recommended to research hair transplant clinics in advance, compare the techniques they use, review real patient results, and assess the reputation of the medical center.

Research the Clinic on Its Website and Social Media

Visit the clinic’s official website and social media pages. These platforms usually feature:

  • Before-and-after photos of patients who have undergone hair transplantation

  • Examples of real results

  • Patient reviews and comments

Pay attention to the authenticity of the information and real patient experiences. Comments under publications can often provide valuable insight into the quality of the clinic’s work.

A trustworthy clinic provides not only professional medical care but also transparent communication, proper preparation, and the goal of achieving the most natural-looking results possible.

Should You Shave Your Hair Before a Hair Transplant?

You should not shave your hair yourself before the procedure. Whether shaving is necessary depends on the hair transplant technique selected.

Maintaining your existing hair length allows the doctor to:

  • Properly plan the hairline

  • Identify the areas requiring correction

  • Assess hair density and growth direction

Any trimming or shaving, if necessary, will be performed at the clinic after the medical planning stage.

Can You Eat Breakfast Before the Procedure?

A light breakfast is recommended before a hair transplant.

Avoid:

  • Fatty foods

  • Very heavy meals

If you have specific dietary preferences or restrictions, such as being vegetarian or having food allergies, be sure to inform the clinic in advance.

Inform Your Doctor About Your Health and Medications

This information is extremely important for the safety of the procedure. Be sure to inform your doctor if you have:

  • Allergies

  • Blood-clotting disorders

  • Asthma

  • High blood pressure

  • Respiratory problems

  • Diabetes

  • Psoriasis

  • Any chronic medical conditions

Required Tests Before Hair Transplantation

Before undergoing a hair transplant, all patients are required to complete medical tests. This is an essential part of the preparation process and helps ensure the maximum possible safety of the procedure.

The Clinic provides each patient with a complete list of all necessary pre-operative tests in advance. The results help the doctor to:

  • Assess the patient’s general health

  • Check blood-clotting parameters

  • Identify potential contraindications

  • Ensure safe anesthesia

  • Reduce the risk of complications during and after the procedure

If the required test results are not provided, the hair transplant procedure will not be performed.

If a patient has chronic medical conditions or abnormalities are identified in the test results, the doctor may recommend additional examinations and/or postpone the procedure.

Medications to Stop 7 Days Before Hair Transplantation

One week before the procedure, it may be necessary to stop taking certain medications and supplements, including:

  • Aspirin

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

  • Vitamins B and E

  • Anticoagulants

  • Ibuprofen

If you are taking any other medications that are not listed above, be sure to inform your doctor before the procedure is scheduled.

Important:

  • If you are using finasteride, discontinuation is not necessarily required.

  • Minoxidil should generally be discontinued 7 days before the procedure and resumed 14 days after the procedure, according to your doctor’s instructions.

Never start or stop any medication without first consulting your doctor.

Alcohol Consumption Before the Procedure

Alcohol consumption should be stopped at least 24 hours before a hair transplant. Alcohol may affect the effects of anesthesia and increase the risk of bleeding.

It is also recommended to avoid alcohol for 10–14 days after the procedure.

Choose Comfortable Clothing for the Day of Surgery

On the day of your hair transplant, it is recommended to wear clothing:

  • With buttons or a zipper

  • That can be easily removed without touching the scalp

This helps prevent discomfort and protects the transplanted area after the procedure.
