Are Women Candidates for Hair Transplant Surgery?

Yes. Hair loss affects both men and women. Around 40–45% of women experience noticeable hair loss during their lifetime. Female hair transplant surgery can be performed in suitable cases, especially in women with moderate or advanced hair thinning and sufficient donor hair. At The Clinic, approximately 10% of hair transplant patients are women, and each case is carefully evaluated to ensure natural and effective results.

Eligibility for hair transplant surgery is determined individually, as every patient has unique goals and expectations for their appearance. A commonly accepted guideline is that candidates should have at least grade 2 or higher on the Norwood scale (for men) or a comparable level of thinning for women, with sufficient donor hair available. At The Clinic, each patient is carefully evaluated to ensure the procedure will provide natural and lasting results.

Yes. Hair transplant surgery is usually performed while patients are awake. Most patients only need local anesthesia and, if needed, a mild oral sedative to reduce anxiety.
General anesthesia is rarely used, as this is a cosmetic procedure and the discomfort is generally minimal and well-tolerated. Many patients are surprised at how simple and painless the process actually is.

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure, but the risks are extremely low when performed by a qualified medical team. Complications can occur if a patient has an allergic reaction to medications or local anesthesia, or in very rare cases, from excessive blood loss. However, in a properly equipped clinic with experienced doctors and emergency equipment, these risks are preventable and manageable.
At The Clinic, our team is fully certified in emergency care, and patients are carefully monitored throughout the procedure to ensure maximum safety.

Yes. On the day of the operation, your doctor will consult with you to design the hairline and target zones for the surgery.
Your preferences are always taken into account, but the doctor may provide guidance to ensure the hairline looks natural and suits your face. If your chosen hairline is appropriate, we will perform the surgery accordingly.

No. Patients should avoid alcohol for at least 3–5 days before the surgery. Alcohol can affect blood vessels and increase bleeding during the procedure, so staying alcohol-free helps ensure safer and smoother surgery.

Yes, hair transplantation is an effective and proven solution for hair loss. However, several factors should be taken into consideration during a hair transplant in Yerevan, such as individual hair condition and medical assessment. Transplanted hair typically begins to grow approximately six months after the procedure.

You can contact our clinic by phone or online to schedule a consultation. You may either send the required preliminary photos for an initial evaluation or come directly to the clinic for a face-to-face consultation. We make it easy to choose the method that’s most convenient for you.

Our surgeons use magnification tools to clearly see the scalp, allowing them to make precise incisions without damaging existing hair follicles. Protecting your natural hair is essential, as harming these roots could lead to unnecessary hair loss and reduce the effectiveness of the transplant.

Consultations are individualized and depend on each patient’s needs and questions.
•Face-to-face consultations at the clinic usually last 20–40 minutes.
•Online consultations may take a little longer, as patients often want to address all their questions in detail.
•Preoperative consultations before surgery typically take 15–30 minutes, with additional time if needed.
We tailor every consultation to ensure you fully understand the procedure and your personalized treatment plan.

The number of grafts needed varies for each person and depends on scalp size and donor zone density.
For example, 5,000 grafts may not fully cover a large scalp, while 4,000 grafts could be sufficient for a smaller head. The key factor is the density of your donor hair, as this determines how much coverage can be achieved.
A higher graft number does not always guarantee better results—personalized planning is essential.

Hair transplant surgery is generally not a painful procedure. Discomfort is minimized through the use of local anesthesia and pain-relieving medications during the hair implantation process. Our medical team takes every measure to ensure maximum patient comfort throughout the operation. Hair transplant surgery is considered a definitive solution for hair loss treatment.

In most cases, a full shave is required during hair transplant surgery. This allows the surgeon to have clear visibility and better access to the donor and recipient areas, ensuring precise placement of the grafts.

We ask patients not to cut their hair before arriving at the clinic. This allows us to accurately mark the areas for transplantation and clearly see the thinning zones. Hair trimming or cutting will be done by our team at the clinic before the procedure.

First, make sure you trust the clinic and your doctor. A good connection with your surgeon is the most important step to feeling comfortable, as you are entrusting them with your procedure.
Don’t hesitate to ask all your questions and clarify any concerns before the surgery. If anxiety remains high, we can provide mild anti-anxiety medication to help you feel more relaxed during the procedure.

The optimal donor area is the back of the head, also known as the safe donor zone. Hair in this area is usually resistant to the effects of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), so grafts harvested from here rarely shed after transplantation and provide long-lasting results.

Post Operation

Are There Any Dietary Restrictions After Hair Transplant Surgery?

There are minimal dietary restrictions after hair transplant surgery. Patients should avoid alcohol for the first 10 days and limit very spicy or salty foods for the first 3–5 days. Moderate seasoning is acceptable, but avoid excess.

Yes. You can comb and style your existing hair normally after the transplant. The procedure does not interfere with your natural hair, so you can treat it just like before.

We want patients at least for a month not to shave or cut or trim their hairs. Usually after a month you can use scissors for the recipient side or trimmers or clippers for the donor side to shave your hair. But, other than that, at least for two to three months we do not want you to use the trimmers or clippers in the recipient side because it may pull or damage the skin or hair, that’s why you should avoid that.

Yes, you can shower, but avoid getting water on the newly transplanted area. You may wash normally below the neck.

If you choose to use alternative products, carefully review their ingredients. It is important to select natural products that are gentle on the skin and do not contain parabens to avoid any potential harm.

Yes, you can. We recommend waiting 6–8 weeks after the transplant, until the new hair has started to grow, before coloring or dyeing.

We advise patients to arrange for someone to drive them home after the procedure. Hair transplant surgery lasts 6–8 hours and involves medications that may cause tiredness or drowsiness, so for your safety, do not drive immediately after surgery.

Yes, you can go outside, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight or UV exposure for the first six months after surgery. Excessive sun can cause scarring or change scalp pigmentation. If you’ll be in the sun for a long time, wear a hat, cap, or sunscreen with SPF 40–50.

Yes, you can wear a hat 10 days after your hair transplant. It’s best to choose a loose-fitting hat, bandana, or scarf to avoid putting pressure on the transplanted area.

Minoxidil is not mandatory, but we recommend it for patients with androgenetic alopecia. It helps reduce hair miniaturization and supports regrowth after the transplant, enhancing overall results.

No, the donor area hair does not grow back. Hair transplantation redistributes existing hair to cover thinning areas, which may reduce donor area density by approximately 20–30% after the procedure.

Hair grafts start stabilizing within the first 24 hours, but they remain fragile for 5–10 days after the procedure. During this period, it’s important to follow post-operative care instructions—avoid wearing tight hats, pressing on the grafts while sleeping, or any activity that may disturb them. After 10 days, the grafts are generally secure.

If the donor area has fully healed within 5 days after the procedure, there is no need to continue applying antibiotic cream beyond this period.

Panthenol spray should be used for approximately 15 days, until all crusts have completely fallen off and the skin has fully recovered.

Rest time depends on your type of work. For physically demanding jobs, avoid heavy activity and dusty environments for 10–14 days until the scabs heal. For office work or remote jobs, most patients can return to work 2–3 days after the procedure.

For the first 30 days, you should wash your hair daily. During the first 2 weeks, follow the washing instructions provided by the clinic to protect the transplanted grafts and ensure proper healing.

After a hair transplant, it’s safest to sleep on your back with the donor area facing down for 7–10 days. Using a neck pillow can help prevent pressure on the transplanted hair. Avoid turning onto your sides to protect the grafts during the initial healing period.

Immediately after the surgery, some redness or uneven density may be visible for a few weeks. However, once the hair fully grows (3–5 months onward), a properly performed transplant with the correct angle, direction, and placement is not noticeable, giving a natural and aesthetic appearance.

Yes, minimal bleeding may occur during the first night or on the second day, usually from a few grafts. It is normal and not continuous, and can be managed by gently pressing the area. No special treatment is usually needed.

No, PRP is not mandatory after a hair transplant. However, we recommend it because it supports hair regrowth, reduces miniaturization, and promotes faster scalp recovery after the procedure.

PRP is not universally recommended for all hair loss patients, but in our clinic, we find it beneficial for early-stage hair loss. When applied after surgery, repeated PRP sessions over 5–6 months can improve healing and support faster hair growth, enhancing overall results.

After a hair transplant procedure, it is recommended to wash your scalp daily for a period of one month to support proper healing and hygiene.

Success rates vary by area of the scalp. The frontal area, with better blood supply, has a success rate of over 95%, while the crown/vertex area is slightly lower, around 70–80%, due to circulation and physiological factors. Success also depends on the number of grafts needed and proper density planning for each area.

For the first month, hair should be washed daily following the clinic’s instructions. Use warm, comfortable water—not hot or cold—to protect the transplanted grafts.

Swelling after the procedure is normal and should not be a cause for concern. You may apply an ice pack for 10 minutes every two hours and gently massage the scalp. The swelling typically subsides within a few days.

It is recommended to wait at least one month after the procedure before resuming any physical exercise or sports activities.

Most patients can return to work 1–2 days after their hair transplant, especially if their job does not involve heavy physical activity. The procedure is minimally invasive, so resting for a day or two is usually sufficient for recovery.
Some patients may prefer to wait a few more days before returning, mainly because of temporary redness, scabs, or mild swelling in the transplanted area, which can be visible to others. However, medically, there is no restriction on going back to work after a couple of days, and most people resume their routine without issues.

Hair transplantation is a minimally invasive procedure, and there is no strict restriction on sexual activity after surgery. Patients can have intercourse even shortly after the procedure, but should avoid excessive sweating or intense physical strain during the first few days to protect the transplanted grafts.

You should wash your head on the second or third day after the procedure. The bandage is removed before the first wash and does not need to be worn again afterward.

You can shower with normal water pressure 10 days after the transplant, as by then the grafts are securely attached to your scalp and will not be damaged by regular washing.

Any natural shampoo without sulfates is safe to use after your hair transplant. Avoid shampoos with harsh chemicals, and check the ingredients before buying. In our experience, natural olive oil shampoos work particularly well, as they are gentle on the scalp and help maintain healthy hair and grafts.

A hair transplant does not prevent future hair loss. Your existing hair will continue to follow your genetic pattern, so further thinning may occur over time if you are genetically predisposed.
